About me
How I work
Collaborative - success in work can almost always be attributed to strong workplace culture. I love working in an engaged, productive team.
Curious - remaining curious means challenging assumptions, seeking inspiration and leading innovation to make meaningful improvements.
Passionate - creating something new is hard work, there’s ambiguity and discomfort. I relish overcoming obstacles with a positive, open mind frame.
Strategic - understanding the business context and objectives is imperative to achieving success.
Human centred - I prioritise championing the customer voice throughout the design journey and leading a human-centred process.
Things I do
Design thinking - design thinking is an ingrained way of seeing the world. It equips me to tackle tricky problems with curiosity and positivity.
Design research - using ethnographic techniques to uncover experiences, I find opportunities for design solutions.
Prototypes - prototyping lets you explore and shape ideas to find out what works quickly and cheaply.
Story telling - as a trained journalist, I know how to cut through information overload and communicate clearly. This can include using design tools like journey mapping, audio feedback, and personas. My style is engaging and clean.
Workshops - great workshops spark innovation, foster design mindsets and generate collaboration. I design and deliver engaging sessions.
Leadership - I’m a customer-centric leader, I value different approaches, cultivate creativity and coach others.
Experience
I'm a service designer, researcher and human-centred strategist with over 10 years experience in the industry. I trained as a journalist in the UK and have worked with a range of prominent NGOs overseas conducting research with charities, crafting communications strategies with environmental organisations, and running writing workshops for survivors of torture in a leading human rights organisation.
I came to New Zealand in 2012 and started as a Service Designer at the Ministry for Primary Industries, where I implemented and led a human-centred approach to food safety compliance in the food and beverage industry. Since then, I've worked with various design consultancies and government ministries, designing and delivering everything from large-scale policy changes to niche community initiatives.
